Lichtenwalner, Richard J. “Dick”, "Chief", age 83, of Waterford passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 4, 2015. He was born in Racine, the son of the late Jay and Emma (nee. Kornhoff) Lichtenwalner. He was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Dick married Marlene M. Cable at Holy Name Parish in Racine on October 16, 1954. He worked for Ostergaard Bakery in Racine where he developed his lifelong love of sweets. He was then employed by the Racine Police Department working as an officer as well as a detective for 26 plus years from where he retired. Dick enjoyed wood working and fishing. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family. After retirement Dick and Marlene lived in Arbor Vitae and for past 9 years in Waterford.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Marlene; children: Linda (Ervin) LaFave, Karen (Ulrich) Jentzsch, Jeffrey (Lorie) Lichtenwalner, Timothy (Joan) Lichtenwalner, Scott (Mary) Lichtenwalner and Connie (Gary) Myers. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one sister: Gloria Oertel and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Joshua and brother- in-law James Oertel.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 9-11 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 305 South First Street, Waterford, WI. Memorial Mass begins at 11:00 AM. Inurnment with Military Honors will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street (Hwy C) Union Grove at 2 PM on Monday. In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to the family.
