Thompson, Ray D., age 82, of Waterford, passed away on Wednesday March 16, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Burlington. Ray was born in Fayetteville, NC on February 5, 1934. Five years later her parents, Maurice and Kathleen (nee. Beasley) Davis moved to Maysville, KY where she grew up and received her education. She attended Eastern Kentucky State University earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. After graduation Ray moved to Flint, MI where she taught at Flint Central High School. Three years later she traveled to England to teach children of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed at Alconbury and Molesworth Air Force bases. While in England she met and married Carl F. Thompson of Ridgeland, WI on June 17, 1961. They returned to the United States in 1963 and settled in Waterford where she worked at Fox River School as a teacher, principal, and guidance counselor over the next 28 years. Ray was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where she served on a number of boards and committees. She was also a volunteer at Burlington Memorial Hospital for several years.
Surviving are her husband Carl; daughter Kathleen (Steve) Blum; granddaughter Jennifer Blum; brother Maurice (Pat) Davis; sister-in-law Joyce (Clark) Huston; six nieces and 5 nephews and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law: Carl H. and Beatrice Thompson; brother James Davis; sisters-in-law Shelby Davis and Muriel Pick.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 22, 2016 from 3:00 - 5:45 PM with Services starting at 6 PM with Reverend Frederick Bischoff officiating at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 145 South Sixth Street, Waterford, WI. Burial will take place on Wednesday March 23 at 10:00 AM in the Church Cemetery, meet at the cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
