Barnhart, Peter J., age 88, of Burlington, formerly of the Town of Norway, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Peter was born on the family farm in Sturtevant on Dec. 30, 1921. He was a 1939 graduate of Union Grove High School, where he recently celebrated his 70th class reunion! Peter went on to study at the Marshall University during his time of military service to his country. He married Lois A. Luhn on June 22, 1946 at St. Bonaventure Seminary in Sturtevant. The couple lived for 50 years on their farm in the Town of Norway and for the past 10 years resided in Burlington. A farmer all of his life, Peter was also a retired US Postal Carrier. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He is survived by his wife Lois of Burlington; children: Sandra Barnhart of Franklin; James (Ann) Barnhart of Union Grove; Richard (Bonnie) Barnhart of Hales Corners; Daniel (Sue) Barnhart of Edgewater, FL & Jane (Jim) Wiess of Waterford, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandsons;Four Sisters: Ursula(Jesse) Peters, Mary(Robert) Stramp, Pat(John)Griffin and Susan(James) Lemke; other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dover, 23211 Church Road, Kansasville, WI, 53139. Reverend Howard Haase will officiate. A Memorial Gathering will be held in Church prior to Mass on Tuesday from 9-11 AM. Inurnment will follow, with Military Honors, at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. The family wishes to thank Dr.’s Ellingstad and Moran, along with all of the staff at Memorial Hospital of Burlington, Aurora VNA Hospice of Lake Geneva Nurses and Staff and Love, Inc. of Burlington for their special attention and care of Peter.
