Mrs. Mary Irene Hegemann

Hegemann, Mary I., age 83, of Waterford, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 11, 2015 with family by her side. Mary was born on September 26, 1932 in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of the late Ira M. and Inis M. Peterson. She married Wesley Smith on July 6, 1951 who preceded her in death in 1981. Mary married Kenneth J. Hegemann on November 15, 1985. For a short time she worked at Carthage College, while most of her working life she was employed at Nestlé's in Burlington. She was a homemaker and was proud of her family, with whom she dearly loved and enjoyed their company. Her hobbies included crocheting and knitting; she also enjoyed bird watching and especially loved time away at the cottage fishing.
She is survived by her loving husband: Kenneth J. Hegemann; children: Linda (Jerel) Winderdahl, Jane Hill, Bev (Dennis) Edwards, JoAnn (Jack) Bidner, Wesley (Thanh) Smith and Mary Jo Phillips. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive Mary along with her sister: Evelyn Peterson, step-mother: Retha McCandless and sisters-in-law: Fran and Margie. She is survived further by other relatives and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, first husband: Wesley Smith and her grandson: Phillip Rotramel.
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 4-5:45 PM with Services starting at 6 PM. Burial in West Lawn Cemetery in Racine will take place on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 11:00 AM. Please meet at the cemetery.
