Mrs. LaVerne S. Maahs

Maahs, LaVerne S. (nee. Payleitner) age 91, of Milwaukee, went home to the Lord on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Maple Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center. LaVerne was born in Sheboygan, WI on March 30, 1924, the daughter of Charles and Amanda (nee. Milz) Payleitner. She married Harry P. Tischer on July 12, 1947 in Milwaukee, WI. They divorced in 1975, and LaVerne married Carl H. Maahs, Sr. on October 22, 1983 in Delafield, WI. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1991.
LaVerne graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Racine, WI. LaVerne was a registered nurse for more than 50 years and was very proud of her career in nursing. She was employed primarily at Johnston Emergency and Contagion Hospital and at the Milwaukee Mental Health Center.
LaVerne is survived by her children: Diann (Philip) Galassie of Janesville, Denise Tischer of Green Lake, Teri (Steven Nodine) Tischer of Milwaukee, Steven (Kelly) Tischer of Mason, OH and Eric Tischer (Patty Parker) of Neenah; her grandchildren: Jennifer Prado, James Galassie, Savannah Tischer-Nodine, Jillian Tischer and David Tischer and her great granddaughters: Kristina Prado and Sienna Nodine. Laverne’s brother: Richard (Edith) Payleitner and brother-in-law: Bud Baumeister also survives her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband: Carl H. Maahs, Sr., by the father of her children: Harry Tischer, a daughter: Lynn Tischer, a son: Stanley Tischer and her sister: Charlotte Baumeister.
Visitation will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 10-11 AM with services starting at 11 AM with Chaplain Beverly Davis officiating. Burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery to follow.
