Kurer, Joshua R., Age 24 Specialist Joshua R. Kurer entered into Eternal Life on Monday, June 27, 2011, in his apartment in River Falls, WI. Joshua was born in Milwaukee, WI on February 23, 1987. Josh is survived by parents: Ronald and Mary Kurer of Waterford, sisters: Sarah, Melissa, and Hannah (Alexei) Strelchenko, Godparents: James Kurer and Cindy Giammo, grandparents: Harold and Lucille Meyer and Esther Kurer, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Joshua graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas Grade School in Waterford, WI in 2001, and from Catholic Central High School in Burlington, WI in 2005. Joshua attended Saint Louis University where he belonged to the “Kappa Delta Rho” fraternity from 2005-2007, before transferring to the University of Wisconsin, River Falls in the fall of 2007. Joshua’s interests included Outdoor Sports, History, Politics, Economics, and Geneology. It was during a high school history assignment that he discovered he had ancestors who had served our country during the American Revolutionary War. Joshua became a member of the “Wisconsin Society Sons of the American Revolution” Elisha Raymond Chapter. Joshua signed up to become a citizen soldier of the Wisconsin National Guard shortly after arriving as a student at River Falls. Joshua graduated from basic training at Ft. Benning, GA with the 2/54th in August 2008. Josh deployed with the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009-2010. He was assigned to Company D, 1-128th Infantry, based out of River Falls, WI. He was a member of 2nd platoon. While in Iraq, he was a member of a security detail that operated in the Baghdad area. He was stationed at Camp Liberty. Since returning from Iraq, Joshua returned to school at Chippewa Valley Technical College. Joshua was devoted to God and his country, his loving family, his loyal friends and fellow soldiers. He is deeply missed by all of us. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 307 South First Street (Hwy 20) , Waterford, with Reverend Gene Doda officiating. Visitation will be in the Church on Saturday from 9-10:45 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Church Cemetery following Mass.
