Spaight, John V., age 87, of Waterford, formerly of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. John was born on June 12, 1926 in Burlington, the son of the late Raphael and Alvina (nee. Kortendick) Spaight. He spent his early years in Waterford and attended St. Thomas Graded School. He was a Waterford High School Graduate. Following high school, John proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines. On September 15, 1951 in Sharon, WI, he married Jean E. Baker. They lived in Waterford where they raised five children. John was a lifelong carpenter by trade. Upon retirement, John and Jean relocated to Bella Vista, AR. They recently moved back to Waterford. John enjoyed a good round of golf at Rivermoor in Waterford. He also enjoyed the game of bridge, he loved to read and spent a good many of his weekends watching football. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years: Jean, children: Lawrence “Butch” (Judy) Spaight of North Prairie, WI; Jane (James) Bodden of Woodland Park, CO; Timothy Spaight; James (Mary) Spaight of Waterford and Trish (Jeff) Lancaster of Iowa. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; one brother: Robert “Bob” Spaight of East Troy, WI; sister-in-law: Shirley Andrews; other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Mary; brother: Colin”Dick” and brother-in-law: George “Fritz” Kuecker. A Memorial Gathering with family and friends will take place in the funeral home on Friday, September 13, 2013, from 4:30-6:30 PM. Private inurnment at a later date.
