Joan R Weiler Joan Ruth Comfort (nee: Walle) Weiler Age 84 of Waterford passed away at her home on Thursday, May 3, 2012 surrounded by family. Joan was born in Winona, MN, on Nov. 12, 1927, to Christian and Ruth Walle. She graduated from Winona High School in 1945. She met and married her first husband, James Steward in 1947 and started their family of three children. Joan attended North Iowa Area Community College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1972 Joan moved to Wisconsin, working at Southern Center in Union Grove. There she met and married her second husband, Charles Weiler in 1975. Joan continued her education and received her Registered Nursing degree at Gateway Technical College. She worked at and retired from St Mary’s Hospital in Racine in 1990. Joan and her beloved husband, Charley, loved to travel the world and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Joan was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She was very active in the Norway Lutheran Church, Norway Choir, Martha Clausen Group and bible study. Joan was past president of the Bixby Hansen American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Ladies. Joan was a special person, who always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Joan is survived by three children: Michael (Linda) of Cornville, AZ, Lawrence (Kathy) of Missouri City, TX, and Carolyn Steward of Henderson, NV, three step-children: William Weiler of Neillsville, Jane Babik of Rochester and Richard (Rose) Weiler of Burlington, thirteen grandchildren: Jodi, Megan, Ryan, Jonathan, and Patrick Steward, Jennifer (Dan Grady), Terese, Kristin, Karen, Matthew Weiler, Melanie (Heiko) Wendel, Bradley (Angela) Sundstrom, and Kevin Babik, two great-grand children: Isabelle Sundstrom and Liam Grady with 2 additional great grandchildren to be born this summer to Brad and Angela and Melanie and Heiko, brother: David (Ellen) Walle, nephews: Gary (Kim), Greg (Kathy), Grant, and Guy Foat. Joan was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, step-mothers: Helen Walle and Grace Walle, sister and brother-in-law: Jean and Herbert Foat, grandson: Michael Steward, and sons-in-law: William Schnitkey and John Babik. Services will be held Thursday May 10, 2012 6:00 PM at Norway Lutheran Church, 6321 Heg Park Road, Wind Lake. Visitation in church Thursday 4 – 5:45 PM. Private burial at Union Grove Memorial Cemetery. In Lieu of floral expressions of sympathy memorials are suggested to Norway Lutheran Church for the Church Choir and the maintenance of the Norway Church on the Hill. The family would like to give a special thanks to Karen Weiler for her loving care of grandma in her final months, to Home & Hospice Advantage and especially Jan and Kaitlyn and the Foat Families for their help and support.
