Cheever, Janet Mary, age 81, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of Burlington with her loving husband and family at her side. Janet was born in Jim Falls, Wisconsin on August 1, 1936, the daughter of the late Wesley and Mary (nee. Dunlap) Maier. She spent her early life in Jim Falls and was a graduate of Chippewa Falls High School. On September 25, 1954, she married Clarence H. Cheever Jr. Janet followed her husband through the seminary, earning an honorary degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary. Janet faithfully served the United Methodist Church with her husband in Boscobel, the Stanley area and Waterford for many years. She was a church and school secretary, school bus driver, homemaker and especially a loving partner and friend to her dear husband Junie. She enjoyed camping with her family in the summer months, crafting, scrapbooking, canning, gardening and attending to her flowers. Janet was an avid Packer fan. Janet enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she will be sadly missed.
Janet is survived by her loving husband: Reverend Clarence H. Cheever Jr., children: Gregory (Mary), Debra (Don) Ellis, Michael (Becky), Susan (Ron)Updike, Pat (Kay), Mark (Jennifer), Tina Cheever and Doug (Robin); grandson: Austin Conte and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Further survived by one brother: Calvin (Eunice) Maier, brothers-in-law: David (Shirley) Cheever and Duane Seidlitz; and by other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, daughter Mary Hattie, granddaughters: Kelsey Butzlaff and Renee Updike; grandsons: Andrew and Ian Wright.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 9-11 AM at The Journey Church, 740 Center Street, Burlington, WI 53105. Services will begin at 11:00 AM. A visitation will also take place at Jim Falls United Methodist Church, County Hwy S and 139th Avenue in Jim Falls, Wisconsin, 54748 on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 4-7 PM, and again on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 10-11 AM at the church, with services starting at 11 AM. Burial will follow services at Copps Cemetery in Anson Township. In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to the family, checks payable to Reverend Clarence H. Cheever Jr., for distribution to Janet’s favorite charities.
