Carter, Irene L. (nee. Kojis) age 83, of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Holton Manor in Elkhorn, WI. She was born in Waterford on November 3, 1932 the daughter of George and Elizabeth (nee. Steffek) Kojis. Irene was a graduate of Waterford High and on September 20, 1952 she married Vernon “Nick” Carter who preceded her in death on December 16, 1996. Irene and Nick lived near Honey Lake most of their life and raised three beloved children: Glen, Sandy and Lynn. Irene was an avid Packer fan and NASCAR fan. In her early days she enjoyed playing and teaching the accordion. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her children: Glen, Sandy (Frank) Stout and Lynn (Tom) Winkler; grandchildren: Melissa (Bill) Dale, Josh Winkler, Glen (Shelley) Carter Jr. and Tara (fiancé Dan) Carter. She is further survived by ten beautiful great-grandchildren; one sister: Rose Ericksen, one brother: Joe Kojis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Nick, granddaughters: Christie and great-granddaughter Kailee, along with nine brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 10 AM – 12 PM. Services in the funeral home will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 12:00 noon with Father Gene Doda Jr. officiating. Burial will take place in St. Thomas Cemetery following services.
