Foat, Herbert D., Waterford 82 passed away at Waukesha Memorial Hospital on Tuesday June 10, 2008, with family by his side. Herbert was born in Waterford on November 22, 1925 to Irving and Marie (Hegemann) Foat. He graduated from Waterford Union High School in 1944, which he then enrolled in Cadet School in San Mateo, California. Upon Finishing, He boarded St. Lawrence Victory, a cargo ship that carried supplies for the Armed Forces. Shortly after coming home from the war, Herbert meet Jean Walle and they were married on June 11, 1950, at Downy Chapel, Illinois. He worked in partnership for several years as a carpenter, before starting his own contracting business: Herb Foat Builders. Herbert was the Waterford Village Assessor and served on the Village board for many years. He was a member of the Essman Schroeder American Legion Post 20 in Waterford. Herb had been a life long member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Herbert enjoyed the outdoors. His love of hunting and fishing continued as he encouraged his sons and grandsons in the same sports. Herbert enjoyed many outings with his family and friends especially to their northern Wisconsin home. He loved to share his memories of his Merchant Marine experiences and most of all his stories of hunting and fishing. Herbert was a loving father and a good friend to many and he will be greatly missed. Herbert is survived by his four children: Gary (Kim), Greg (Kathy), Grant (Sandy) and Guy. Seven grandchildren, Casey, Cory & Garrett Foat, Kyle & Kelsy Foat, along with Jeff & Shannon Foat. Sister Grace McMahon and Bill Renfro, brother James, brother-in-law: Roy (Ruby) Brunet, sister-in-law: Joan Weiler, and brother-in-law: David (Ellen) Walle, nieces and nephews and friends. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife Jean, infant daughter Gale, his parents, Brother Irving, Sister Lois Brunet and brother-in-law: Peter McMahon. Visitation will be at Mealy Funeral Home in Waterford on Sunday June 15, 2008, from 3 until 6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday June 16th, 2008 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 307 South First Street (Hwy 20) Waterford at 11:00 AM; burial will follow Mass on Monday at Rochester Cemetery ¼ mil west of Rochester.
