O’Connell, Elizabeth Genevieve, “Beti”, age 80, of Waterford, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on June 19, 2017. Beti was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 25, 1936 to Howard J. and Sylvia K. (nee. Daehn) Butters. Beti grew up on Milwaukee's south side where she attended St. Veronica Grade School and graduated from Bay View High School. She met the man of her dreams, her best friend and partner Richard Cornelius O’Connell and was married at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Madison on October 18, 1958. Beti worked as a dental assistant for several dental offices but her passion was breeding Irish Setters, she even had a few champions. She loved picking asparagus and learned how to swim while in her 50’s. At the age of 79 she took a motorcycle trip from Vail, Colorado to Bisbee, Arizona! Beti enjoyed traveling, and the trips to Ireland and the Caribbean are the ones that stood out. Beti loved her family and enjoyed sharing her adventures with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Beti is survived by two daughters: Erin (Karl) Korthoff, Colleen “Kelly” (John Bjork) Cornelius; two sons: Sean (Lisa) O’Connell, Ian (Joanna) O’Connell; three sisters: Carole Troia, Jeanne (Dennis) La Court and Gail (Donna Saucier) Kuhn; eight grandchildren: Liz Schrimpf, Jacquelyn Garratt, Kelsey Korthoff, Morgan and Riley O’Connell; Cody, Sydnee, and MacKenzie Ralls; six great-grandchildren: Ian, Spencer, Jayden, Ty, Layla and Eli; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, best friend and partner: Richard O’Connell, sister: Marion Butters, one grandchild: Danielle Cornelius.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday July 11, 2017 from 9-10:45 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 305 S. First St, Waterford, WI 53185. Services will begin at 11:00 AM with inurnment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waterford. In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy Beti would like memorials made to “Ronald McDonald House” or “Oakwood Cemetery”.
Family would like to thank Father Gene Doda Jr. and Aurora At Home Hospice, also the Doctor’s and Staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center for all they did with and for our mother.
