Donna M. Hying

Hying, Donna M. age 85, of Waterford, entered eternal life with loving family by her side on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Donna was born December 11, 1938 in Floyd County Iowa, the daughter of the late Harlan Birkholz and Norma Brown. She was educated as a schoolteacher, and met Joseph Hying while they were both teaching in Stacyville, Iowa. On April 8, 1961, in New Haven, Iowa she married Joseph and proceeded to raise their family together for 52 years. They had 10 children. They moved to Waterford in 1968, where Donna was a dedicated homemaker, and devout Catholic parishioner at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Faith Community in Waterford, WI. Donna is survived by her children: Gerard of Waterford, Clement’s widow Iliana Hying of Thiensville, Peter of Waterford, Janet (Stanley) Blanco of Milwaukee, Catherine (Gordy) Grady of Cudahy, Martin (Kathie Schmalz) of Racine, Daniel (Jennifer) of Franksville, Emmett of Whitewater, and John (Jessica) of Beaver Dam. Surviving grandchildren: Gerard’s children: Scott (Macenzie) Hying and Erin Hying, Clement’s children: Zachary and Skyler (Rachel) Hying, Catherine’s child: Ashley Kempken (John Wiesolek IV), Martin’s child: Jillian Hying, Daniel’s children: Luke, Noah and Grace Hying. John’s children: Flynn and Henry Hying. She was blessed by her first great-grandchild Wilson Hying (Skyler and Rachel) in May and had the privilege of meeting him earlier this month. Donna is survived by her sisters-in-law Carole Birkholz and Joanna Hying, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hying, parents, two sons: Edward and Clement, sister Beverly Lubbert and brother Duane Birkholz.

Visitation will be held 9:30AM-10:45AM Monday, July 29, 2024 at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC FAITH COMMUNITY (305 SOUTH 1ST STREET WATERFORD, WI 53185), with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 AM with Bishop Donald J. Hying officiating. Interment St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Cemetery. 

 In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donna’s honor appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
