Mr. Donald F. Oldenberg

Oldenberg, Donald F. “Don” Age 91 of Burlington died at Memorial Hospital of Burlington October 16, 2009. Born November 26, 1917 in the Town of Norway the son of the late Alfred M. and Astrid “Esther” (nee. Krogstad) Oldenberg. He attended Hillcrest graded school and Rochester Agricultural Schools. He than spent a few years working on farms near Auburn Iowa. Returning to Wisconsin to enter into a partnership with Doc VanDuine on a farm west of Rochester, WI until the spring of 1950. On September 9, 1950 he married Agnes Hardie in the Rochester Congregational Church. Don helped his father with carpentry work and also worked at the Rochester Ag School Farm. In January of 1951 he began delivering Standard Oil products for the Burlington Agent: Stanley Betts. Don bought the business in 1958 and continued until his retirement in May of 1976. Don served on various committees at the Rochester Congregational Church, Don was elected to the Rochester Cemetery Association Board as Treasurer in 1957 also served 52 years on the Board of Directors for the Rochester Cemetery Association where he was president from 1976 until 2000 and than served as Trustee until the time of his death. He was a current member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Burlington and has been since the early 1990’s. Don cherished his family and his many friends. He enjoyed traveling, especially his two trips to Australia and New Zealand. He was a talented furniture restorer and refinisher. His love of farming continued throughout his life. Many will remember Don for his teasing and practical jokes in addition to his thoughtfulness and generosity. Survived by loving wife Agnes, and Daughter: Laura (Tom) Drendel of Marshfield, WI, Grandsons: Anthony Drendel of Changsha, China and Nathan Drendel of Bowling Green, Ohio. Further survived by one sister: Doris Knutson, One Brother Harold Oldenburg. Sisters-in-law: Marian Oldenberg, Dorothy Oldenberg and Lucille Hardie, Aunts: Olive and Alphield Krogstad also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents, one infant granddaughter Megan, brothers; Ralph and Raymond Oldenberg, brothers-in-law: Clifford Knutson and George S. Hardie. Services for Donald F. Oldenberg will be held Tuesday October 20th 10:30 AM at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 124 West Washington Street, Burlington, Wisconsin. Visitation Monday October 19th 4-7 PM in the funeral home. Visitation also Tuesday October 20th 9:30- 10:15 in the church. Burial will take place in Rochester Cemetery following services on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations appreciated for Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ or Rochester Cemetery Association.
