Schulz, Dennis R. (a/k/a “Bub”, “Papa”, “Hazel”) embarked on his eternal fishing trip on August 7, 2022 surrounded by those who loved him so very much. Born December 12, 1952 in Elkhorn and a graduate of Elkhorn Area High School Class of 1971. Dennis lived more life than most of us. He lived by Mountains in Colorado and Oceans in the Gulf, but spent the majority of his life in Lake Geneva. Dennis had a heart of gold and if you were lucky enough to meet him, you were probably best friends. Dennis was more than a friend, more than a companion, more than a dad/grandpa/uncle/ brother/cousin. He was a force of love that welcomed you with your imperfections because to him, the imperfections made you perfect. Unabashedly real, accepting and welcoming, he was generous and willing to help you out in a pinch. He would tell you if you were doing it wrong…but he would stop to show you how to do it right.
As a kid he lived on farms in Walworth County and was active in 4-H which led to his Hobby farm later in life. He fell off many a pony while playing cowboy, loved to create mischief and torment his sisters. He was a remarkable storyteller (following in the footsteps of his father) and a perpetual prankster. After high school he worked in landscaping and became caretaker to many estates around Lake Geneva. Dennis also worked as a mountain manager for Playboy/Americana and supervised the golf course in summer months. He managed ski resorts in Colorado until returning to WI where he continued his successful career in the ski industry, traveling the world until his retirement. He loved wheeling and dealing antiques and had a small business in estate sales and antique malls. He cherished being silly with his grandkids and teaching them how to fish, chop wood and all his favorite recipes. He went to the Florida Keys every year fishing. When he wasn’t on the ocean you could find him fishing on Delavan and Geneva Lake.
Dennis is survived by his daughters: Nichole Williams (Mark Wolbrink), Lauren Schulz (Bob Howard), Amanda Rein; grandchildren: Mirabella, Cylas, Madison; sisters: Jackie (Arlan) Rust, Jill (Vic) Boyer; nieces and nephews: Abbey Rust, Adam (Skye) Rust, Bailey Gosda, Clayton Boyer, Matt Rust; great nephew Colin; Uncle David (Kathy) Kniep; beloved cousins and innumerable lifelong friends and companions, notably: Peter and Jerry. His legacy is one of innumerable loving bonds and caregiving.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Blanche and Gilbert Schulz, many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lake Geneva Horticultural Hall,
