SCHMIDT, Dean John – Wind Lake, WI
If you were paying attention on July 26, 2022, you may have noticed that the world got a little dimmer that day. Dean John Schmidt, 69, of Wind Lake passed away unexpectedly July 26, 2022. (Time to sell your stock in Patron!!) He was proud to be the first born and self-admittedly better-looking twin of Eugene “Popsie” and Irene (nee. Schlei) Schmidt. He and his twelve siblings shredded the nerves of Popsie and Irene from Menomonee Falls to Wind Lake, Wisconsin. In his early life, while married to Valerie (nee. Corcoran), he helped manage his family’s Sentry store in Waterford. After his divorce from Valerie, and with the closing of the Sentry store coming into view, he bravely finished his BS degree and sought his realtor’s license, then his CRS, then his GRI. He pioneered his now well-known realty business, First Choice Properties, as broker/owner, and worked tirelessly to support his children and eventually build his dream home from a summer cabin on Waubeesee Lake. Chances are, if you care enough to be reading this, he likely invited you to sit on his deck and enjoy the lake. Dean met the love of his life, Tricia A. Dykstra, and after many years of dating were engaged, and married in Barbados on April 13, 2004.
Dean was a member of the Wisconsin Realtors Association, and he likely sold your house or helped you buy one…. or you know someone who did. His generosity was legendary. Dean was consistently the proud sponsor of the VFW, children’s athletics, and the community. If you had a raffle, you could bet he had some of your tickets. He was a world class fixer, and you never worried when he told you he would take care of it.
He encouraged and uplifted those around him, provided his unvarnished and loudly projected opinions without provocation, and his jokes always made you smile… and sometimes cringe. If you were lucky enough to get one of Dean’s 1-finger salutes, you know what we’re talking about. Dean showed us all the definition of true love through the care taking of his beloved wife, Trish, while she battled cancer for a decade before preceding him in death.
Dean is survived by children: Damon Dean Schmidt, Megan Mae (Adam) Blevins, Ryan (Kristen) Dembrowski, and Matthew Dembrowski; grandchildren: Billy, Gunnar, Peyton, and Colton Blevins, Silvana Schmidt, Elaine, and Emilie Dembrowski; sisters and brothers: Carolyn Cates, Nancy Kaul, Amy (John) Caputa, Miriam “Blackie” (Larry) Weber, Laurie (Jerry) Mack, Holly Rupert, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Rick) Dzbinski, Dennis “Spa” (Candice) Schmidt, Douglas (Tammy) Schmidt; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Preceded in death by his loving parents, brother: Eugene “Buddy” Schmidt Jr; brothers-in-law: Chester Cates, John Kaul; sister: Deanna (David) Beck.
Dean was a proud father and papa, respected realtor and entrepreneur, and friend to many… he will be truly missed by all who knew him. We love you more, Daddy.
We’re all lost. Help us take a shot and bring ‘em back at Dean’s Celebration of Life – August 13, 2022 at Cotton Exchange "Plantation Room" 345 Hickory Hollow Rd. Waterford, WI 53185 from 12-3:45 PM.
