Fries, Betty Mae (nee. Salveson) Age 90, of Wind Lake, passed away March 11, 2015. She was born in Superior, Wisconsin on February 6, 1925 the daughter of the late Sigurd and Clara (nee. Rasmussen) Salveson. In 1942 she moved to Wind Lake and worked as a seamstress in Milwaukee during war time. She married Gabriel J. Fries Jr. on May 17, 1947 at Norway Lutheran Church. Betty worked as a seamstress for Junior House also known as J.H. Collectable. She taught sewing for the UW Extension, was a member of Norway Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Homakers, the Norway Quilters, the Altar Guild and Head of WELCA for many years. Aside from being a loving Mother and Grandmother, Betty will be remembered by all to be a very talented seamstress whether she was quilting, making boat seats or chairs, hemming a pant leg or making a custom wedding dress. Every stitch was done with love and care. Betty shared her gift with many in and around the community of Wind Lake where she resided for over 70 years. Betty enjoyed her family time especially when visiting and hiking through her Norwegian heritage. Betty also enjoyed her travels with her family, visiting Norway and Egypt and many faraway places.
She is survived by two Children, Marilyn Canfield and Kim (Narla) Fries; six Grandchildren, Aimee (Steven) Dankmeyer, Jaimee Canfield, Christina (Todd) Oswald, Kimberly Money, Lauren (Anthony) Garcia and Gregory Fries; two Great-granddaughters, Gabriella and Anneliese. She is further survived by siblings, Marjorie, Carol (Jay), Jim (Debbie) and Jane (Ken) nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband Gabriel; Son-in-law Barry canfield; Siblings, Richard, Robert, Sigurd, Donald and Gem.
Please join us in honoring Betty’s life with Services on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Norway Lutheran Church, 6321 Heg Park Road, Wind Lake, WI. Visitation will be held in Church prior to services on Monday from 9-10:45 AM. Burial in Norway Hill Cemetery following services. In lieu of floral expressions of sympathy her family suggests memorial gifts be given to the Norway Quilters or Helping Hand Food Pantry in care of Norway Lutheran Church.
